Driveway Vegetable Garden

August 15, 2012

I snapped these photos of our driveway veggie garden a few weeks ago. We have a big, shady backyard and a super small front yard, so there’s not a great area for a vegetable garden. I was determined to grow some kind of food this year, so I settled for tomatoes in containers.
The containers moved around a few times before we settled on them being smack-dab in the middle of the driveway. It’s actually kind of neat!
I have one heirloom plant that’s very finicky and a regular beefsteak tomato plant that is more dependable. It only took about a week for all these green tomatoes to be red and ready!

They’re beautiful, Whit! I’m envious of all your outdoor space, but this would probably work for us condo-dwellers. Do the tomatoes need a lot of direct sunlight?

Yes ma’am! This would be great for condo and apt dwellers! They do like lots of sunlight, and they love for their soil to stay warm. the leaves will wilt up a lot in the hot summer, but they still produce great tomatoes. Oh and they like to be watered in the morning, too!
