Bougainvillea

September 3, 2013

One of my favorite things to spot on the streets of California was the gorgeous, colorful bougainvillea. It grows so well in the climate in northern California (dry soil and bright sun), it was everywhere! I think I spotted every color imaginable.
The best part of the California style is that the houses are already bright and fun colors. When you combine that with a giant flowering vine growing sideways across your garage? It’s a really striking combination.

This little guy was just getting started, and stuck in a bit of shade, but I have a feeling in a few years this entire iron fence will be covered in hot pink.
PS – I was also obsessed with the container gardens in San Francisco.
