Alt Carnival Party

February 12, 2014

Oh, Alt Summit Carnival Party. This was one of the funnest, craziest things I’ve been a part of, folks. Chelsey and Moorea were the absolute best party co-hosts anyone could asked for. We had help from so many sweet friends and prizes from some awesome partners. It was sort of like a reality show, we’re all given a room and a budget, we lock ourselves in the room (and go over our budgets) until our DIY hearts are content. Here are the details!

Chelsey and Moorea arrived in Salt Lake City a couple of days before me, so they crafted late into the night to create the Ryan Gosling Kissing booth you see in that back left corner. Yes, we had a life-size cardboard cutout and it was awesome. (Photobooth photos are in the Alt Flickr!) I was in charge of the carnival crate paper ceiling you see here, so I basically spent three days going up and down the ladder, tearing and taping. But isn’t it COOL!? It was cool. I liked it.

We had a cardboard cutout Mr. Bear. And we gave him a moustache and fashioned him a bow-tie, of course. He happily welcomed our guests at the entrance.

We had stations set up around the room where you could play carnival games to win fun prizes. I was the Ring Toss lady and let me tell you, people loved these tote bags! We had over 500 and they were gone in less than 2 hours. I got reeeeally into my role as Ring Toss lady and I lost my voice from screaming so much. Hey, it was hard to get those flimsy rings on the thing so I was excited every time somebody won! Which was basically every time… Because I let everyone play til they won… Oops. :) Thank you, Zazzle, for the totes!

Chelsey manned the Spinning Wheel where you could win an assortment of prizes from mugs to notebooks to sunglasses to jewelry. Thank you, ZazzleLand of Nod, and MooreaSeal.com! We also had two fabulous giveaways from Warby Parker & Minnetonka Moccasins

Carnival snacks were a must – we had popcorn, mini pretzels, mini hot dogs and (drum roll please!) customized multicolored cotton candy! Chelsey found a cotton candy shop on Etsy, Sweetopia. If you ever need cotton candy – these ladies were awesome! They’re located in Salt Lake City. As you can see, cotton candy was a popular item! (I didn’t even get to taste it!)

Oh, the costumes. We took the whole “let’s dress up” thing really seriously. I was the Carnival Ring Master, Chelsey was the Bearded Lady, and Moorea was the Fortune Teller. Quite appropriate, don’t you think?

All in all, it was an awesome night. Thank you, Moorea and Chelsey for being awesome party throwers and friends. It was super fun to be locked in a room with you two for 3 days.

I also want to give a huge THANK YOU to our friends who helped set up, came by to say hello, brought us food, let us deliver packages to your house (Alix!) and so much more. Yay for team effort! Thank you YvonneJenAlixMorgan, & Stacy for all your help!

And, an even bigger THANK YOU to our partners and amazing companies who were excited to work with us, give us prizes and make our party an awesome event! Thank you Utah Tent RentalZazzleWarby ParkerMinnetonka Moccasins, Land of Nod, and MooreaSeal.com.

I was just reminiscing about how awesome Alt Summit was and remembered I hadn’t seen the Ryan Gosling photo booth photos! Is there a place where they are viewable? The party was so much fun – thanks for putting it on! :)
