Picking up where we left of yesterday, coming out of the master bedroom, you come into the hallway and immediately to your left is the kitchen. I’m in love with the kitchen. I feel like I should be a reeeeally good cook if I’m going to stand in this gorgeous space everyday, so I’m working on that. The back part of the house (the master and the kitchen) were an addition in 2009, I think. The previous owners did a really great job with finishes and details to make it match the time and feel of the rest of the house.
I love so many things about the kitchen… To name a few… white, light, apron front sink, open shelves, subway tile backsplash, marble countertop, floors, double oven. Mmm…
The only thing I didn’t love (at first) about the kitchen is the huge cabinet over the sink. It’s shabby chic, white but not the same, bright white, the glass looks textured, the shelf goes flush to the ceiling and the other cabinets beside the fridge don’t go flush to the ceiling. BUT! It’s growing on me. We styled it with some of my favorite serving pieces and china pieces so, naturally, that makes me love it.
Another great feature is the small desk area on the left. I love that there’s a designated area in the kitchen, for non-kitchen stuff (like mail!) and it doesn’t take up valuable counter space.
A double oven and herringbone backsplash? Mmm…
We’re playing with a couple ideas for how we’ll create an eat-in space in the kitchen. Probably space for Allen and I to eat dinner when it’s just the two of us, but space enough for four. We’re still dreaming up ideas for that. The eat-in area does need to have a comfy chair or two at the table so that guests can hang out comfortably in the kitchen while the cooking and prepping is happening.
The pantry is across the room and has a bunch of storage space. Those cabinets up top are really handy, they’re huge. And the doors!
Then, over here at the back door, we have a great faux “mud room” area with a bench and we’ll have hooks for jackets, scarves and bags and such. This door leads out to the awesome backyard that’s already fenced-in and perfect. We can’t get over how wonderful it is to be in the kitchen and leave the door open for the animals to go out and play and come in and out easily. In our old house we had to go down to the basement door to let Birch out, so this is a welcome and convenient change!
So that’s the kitchen. I really, really love it. I’m excited to spend a lot of time in here!
