My Studio

May 20, 2014

The studio is done! This is the first room in the new house that we can check off our list. I’m really happy with the way it turned out! We were in a hurry to finish this room because I had a little photoshoot in here on Sunday. (I snapped these photos while it was still clean.) Luckily, my BFF Claire came to visit for the weekend to help me style and finish it. It was so fun to have her here, we styled our little hearts out. I could not have finished this room if she hadn’t come! (Thank you, Claire!) I can’t wait to show you the photos from the shoot on Sunday, too. They’re good!

My sister helped me paint the walls when she was here last month, and I love having white walls. (Thank you, Anna!) The color is Behr Polar Bear. I’m really happy with it. It’s crisp, not too cold, not too warm. I have 2 Ikea Vittsjo units, and I spraypainted them blue.

Finally, all my thrifted trinkets and gardening books finally have a purpose and a place to be admired. I knew all those Goodwill treasures would look good together! When I glance over at these shelves, I see all the stories behind each individual piece. It was really fun to unpack everything and see it again after it being in storage so long. (Incase you missed it, we lived with my in-laws for a few months after we sold our first house and house-hunted.)

There’s a nook over in the corner where we keep our filing cabinet. It’s ugly, so I covered it with a Lacefield Designs fabric, Bali in Navy, and made it a pretty little nook with a big black Robert Abbey lamp and candle tray. I love the combination of the black and white floor, navy textiles, blue shelves, and the glossy black lamp.

I’ve been wanting to find a place for my diy stump table for so long! I just love the wood look. The top is slanted, so it’s hard to use as a real side table, but it looks great with a fiddle leaf fig.

On the back wall I have 3 small Ikea Expedit units (like I had in my old home office) and I love them. I have baskets for office supplies, camera gear, craft materials, etc. We kept the top surface really simple and clean, in contrast to the busy colorful shelves behind my desk.

That’s it! I’m off to the tackle the guest rooms next!

It looks fabulous! And, more importantly, it’s so YOU! The white walls really make it so bright in there, and I’m totally in love with your desk. So much space to get creative. Can’t wait to see what’s next!

Whitney, I LOVE your studio. It looks so bright, happy and clean to work in. Your styling on your blue shelves and the white shelves are beautiful. The desk, your plants and checkerboard floor all add great charm. I can’t wait to see what you do for your next room.
