We finally have our first little spring garden! Earlier this spring, my mom & sister planted a fun little assortment for us – lettuces, onions and swiss chard – in our first little backyard garden. We got lucky and had a great month of consistent rain and slow-rising temps, which apparently is the perfect condition to grow perfect lettuce!
We planted in February and harvested lettuce in early May and swiss chard in mid-May. It’s all delicious!
We threw together two little rectangles with 2x4s to test if the area would be a good garden. There’s a tree nearby that provides a little shade and we weren’t sure if it would be too much once all the leaves grew in.
Lucky for us, it’s apparently a great spot for a garden! The colors of the lettuces are gorgeous, super green. Each head of lettuce is full and crisp. Cheers to a successful first garden and lots of yummy late spring salads.
