Six Months with Lucy

December 14, 2015

Oh, Lucybabe. The best part of my day is when I see Lucy make her happy face. It’s the best. I cannot believe our Lucy is half a year old! Lucy is such a lively baby lately… squealing, grabbing and laughing all the time.

Development: Lucy has learned a lot of fun movements this month! One of the funniest discoveries… her tongue! Lucy started playing around with her tongue, sticking it out, pulling it in, sucking on her upper lip, doing horselips (that’s what you call the tongue vibrating on the lips, right?!), and sucking on her fingers. Lucy’s been so giggly lately and easily entertained. She’s so excited about her toys these days, clearly showing a preference for her bunny friend, her pink puppy, her soft stackable blocks and her owl rattle. Her motor skills are developing, she can control her paci in and out of her mouth pretty well.

Daytime: We eased back into the daycare routine after our hospital stay and it’s improved a lot since that first sick week. (There haven’t been any more illnesses so I’m thankful for that!) Lucy is always happy and smiling when I pick her up. She’s taking 2, sometimes 3, naps at daycare each day. She’s usually a quick napper, less than an hour, but sometimes she’ll still do a solid 2 hour nap. On the weekends, Lucy naps in her crib, snuggling with mama and daddy or while we grocery shop, like a champ. I’m thankful she’s such a flexible gal.

Nighttime: We had a little bit of a sleep regression after the hospital stay. (Waking up for vital checks every 2 hours in the hospital will really throw you off your routine I think.) For the past month Lucy’s only slept through the night 2 or 3 times, but she usually sleeps a solid 6-7 hour chunk at least, so it’s not too bad. I like to think of it as a little snuggle. When I wake up in the middle of the night, I can just roll over and feel Allen’s warmth and hear his breathing, and it’s so comforting. I don’t mind being that for Lucy even if it means I have to wake up at 4am. :)

At her six month appointment, Lucy weighed 14.5 lbs and measured 27 inches long. A whole 10 inches longer than when she was born! Lucy is 20th percentile in weight and 90th percentile in height… I wonder where she gets those proportions!

Five Months with Lucy

November 16, 2015

Oh, Lucybaby! It’s been such a great five months with you, baby girl. You are such a delight! Your personality is starting to bubble out of your sweet little spirit. We love you!

Lucy-5-Month_1

Lucy’s 5 month mark was unfortunately a liiittle bit overshadowed by a hospital stay. We started daycare at the beginning of November, so Lucy was exposed to a few bugs pretty much right away. A nasty virus called RSV landed us in the hospital for 4 days. But, Lucy’s 5 month mark was also when we got to do a fun photoshoot with Pregnancy & Newborn Magazine. Look for my mom and Lucy in the February issue! Anyway, it was a big month!

Lucy’s motor skills are developing faster than ever and she’s demonstrating her strength daily. Lucy’s rolling every which way and always practicing interesting movements. It’s so interesting to watch her work and work and then, voila, move!

Four Months with Lucy

October 15, 2015

Little Lucy, you’re not so little anymore! Your daddy and I are so in love with you. We love watching you grow, and we’re growing with you, too. You are a delightful little one, you’re curious about the world around you, you’re eager to babble and coo with us and you’re the sweetest little snuggler there ever was.

Development: It is completely fascinating and so so fun to watch Lucy’s world open up more and more everyday. Every time she discovers something new or sees something in a new way, it’s completely awe-inspiring. Lately, she’s been noticing our dog, Birch, in a new way. Last week he did his usually “play with me” dance and Lucy giggled in response! She’s a smiley girl, giggling a little bit when we exaggerate our kisses. She’s also quite a coo-er. She started coo-ing and having little conversations with us around 3 months, and then paused her conversation skills for a couple weeks while some other developmental things were happening in her brain, that’s what we think anyway. It was so fascinating! Lucy’s coo-ing and gurgling and squeaking is an awesome sign of her wanting to connect with us. Physically, she can lift her torso up into a pretty good push up, roll over and can hold her head up pretty well for short periods of time in an almost-sitting-up position. She can hold herself up really well while we’re holding her, and it’s made her feel like such a big girl!

Daytime: Lucy gets to hang out with her Grandmas at our house has been so fun and so comforting for me to ease the transition back to work. I’m so thankful our families have been so super supportive! Lucy’s morning routine is the most consistent, she usually wakes up around 8:00, happy as a clam. She still taking multiple naps throughout the day, depending on length. She loves playing with her hands and touching her hands together, reaching out to touch the animals on her playmat, grasping onto things and immediately bringing them to her mouth, grabbing mama’s hair and necklaces, etc. She has the best smile and a joyful little giggle. We’ll cover her in kisses to make her giggle and I just about cry every time. She’s the cutest.

Nighttime: Lucy’s been so sweet to grant us so many calm nights, around 10 hours straight sleeping. Right around 16 weeks, we had a short stint of the four-month sleep regression, it’s supposedly caused by the developmental leaps they’re going through, but it only lasted 3 or 4 nights. Every now and then she’ll have a couple nights in a row of nighttime waking, but they’re usually temporary or caused by a something in particular, like a doctor visit or really rocking her off her routine.

Lucy’s still rocking 3 month onesies and she fits in 6 month pants and pajamas. We think she’s gonna be long like her daddy! Lucy weighed 13 lbs. 7 oz. and 24 inches long at her 4 month appointment this month.
